Intensive English

Overview

Intensive English is a non-credit English language (ESL) program located at the Stan State Turlock campus. This program gives non-native English-speaking students the opportunity to achieve the English language proficiency requirement for undergraduate admission to the university. This program is also open to career leveled professionals who want to enhance their skills in the English language.

Students will be immersed in campus life and American culture. The program allows students to gain confidence in basic interpersonal and academic language skills that will create a comprehensive experience in the United States.

Our goal is to provide students the resources to achieve academic and professional success and prepare them to meet testing standards for admission to Stan State.

If you would like to improve your English, this program will provide the structure and interactions with native English speakers that you need to achieve your goals. We offer 21 hours a week of classroom instruction covering the four skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Active communication is encouraged through projects with native speakers, and time is devoted to TOEFL preparation. Excursions to places both local and throughout the state help students to have first-hand encounters with American culture.
